Bug Fixes:

Fixes for Windows Vista:

1. Domain login fail.
   
2. UI may get stock on some operations.
   
3. Default profile can not connect to the AP with the strongest signal
   
4. The performance status in static page can not match the real throughput.
   
5. When change profile with WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK, the encryption type can not change normally.
   
6. Sometimes the survey page can not list any networks.
   

Fixes for Windows XP/2000:

1. Modify lock icon in status bar when connect to encrypted network.
   
2. WEP password can exceed 32 characters.
   

Known Problems

Vista - Driver limitation

1. XR (Extended Range) not support.
   
2. Can’t get hidden AP’s channel, a/b/g mode and security mode.
   
3. When connect to Ad-hoc mode, can not list infrastructure list.
   
4. Can’t capture CTS/RTS packet.
   
5. Fragment .setting doesn’t work properly.
   
6. Link speed always report 54Mbps on 11g connection and 11mbps on 11b.
   
7. B only mode can not get connect to a b/g mode AP.
   
8. Ad-hoc mode, the connection is very poor except WPA2-PSK mode.

Known Issues:

1. During granting IP address, the status bar displaying 169.254.57.150 temporally then display correct IP like 192.168.1.2.

Known Issues on Windows XP/2000:

1. The utility can not show 108M link speed even it connect to 108M router (WGT624 or WPN824).

To Upgrade

1. Download using the button below to a convenient place such as your desktop. Note that this is a large file! ( 8.9 MB )

2a. Mouse over the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray, and double-click the icon. The Safely Remove Hardware window appears.

2b. Highlight the adapter, and click Stop.

2c. Click OK, if asked to confirm removal.

2d. Physically pull the adapter out.

3. Run the uninstall utility to remove the previous driver, if you are upgrading by selecting Start> Programs > NETGEAR WPN511 Adapter > Uninstall NETGEAR WPN511 Smart Wizard.

4. Select Remove and click Next.

5. Click OK.

6. Close any other programs that are open on your computer.

7. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and click Finish.

8. Double-click the file you just downloaded to start the installation.

9. Click Next on the Smart Wizard Welcome screen.

10. Click Accept to accept the license agreement.

11. Click Next to install in the default directory.

12. If a "Locked File Detected" message appears, click Ignore to continue.

13. Click Next on the Software Installation Complete window.

14. When prompted, insert your WPN511 adapter into your computer.

15. Click Next to use the Smart Wizard to help with installation.

16. Select the country where the computer will be used, and click Agree. Incorrect selection may cause performance problems.

17. Click Next to use the Smart Wizard.

18. Click Next to get help with the installation.

19. The Selecting a Network window appears. Highlight the Network Name you want to connect to. If the Network Name (SSID) is blank, it means that network's router is not broadcasting its SSID. If you want to connect to that network, log in to the router, or ask your network administrator for the SSID.

20. If the network you selected uses WEP security or WPA-PSK security or WPA2-PSK security, then a popup window appears. Click OK to continue. Click Next, and enter the WEP passphrase / WPA-PSK passphrase / WPA2-PSK passphrase. Ask your administrator, if you don't have the passphrase. Click Next.

21. Click Next. The screen advances to the Saving Profile step. You do not have to enter a profile, but it's easier than reentering the network information.

22. Click Finish to close the installer.

23. A conformation message shows that your computer is connected to the Internet. Also the utility window displays. Now that the installation is finished, this is the window you will use in the future to examine available networks, etc. You may close or leave the Smart Wizard utility window open during normal operation.
