Improving Wireless Range

KWGR614 - 54 Mbps Wireless Router
Firmware Version 1.0.0_09.25

This version is for North America Only!

Published October 19, 2006

Note: Do not upgrade the firmware using a wireless connection. Please perform firmware upgrade with “wired” or Ethernet connection only.

New Features

  1. Added the “Dynamic L2TP” support (in additional to the Static L2TP) for some ISP broadband accesses.
  2. Added the feature to avoid “LAN/WAN IP configuration conflict”: this version can detect and avoid the installation problem automatically when the WAN side uses the conflicting IP address configuration as the LAN side.
  3. The 1st release of the NA (Northern American) firmware compliant with the FCC requirement: the wireless region is fixed to US, and only channel 1~channel 11 selection allowed. The wireless radio is ON by default. The default Time Zone is US.
  4. Intel ViiV certifiable: implemented the hidden page (“router-info.htm”) for the access of the Intel ViiV management software.
  5. The 1st release of the WW (worldwide) firmware for EU, AU, etc (except US)
  6. SIP ALG supported for VoIP applications
  7. Added the system recovery capability: In case the flash image is damaged (because of improper or interrupted upgrade process, or bad firmware image programmed by the open source developers, etc), this version allows re-loading the firmware via TFTP. The procedure is:
    1. Power off the unit
    2. Press and hold the RESET button at the rear panel
    3. Power on to reboot the unit
    4. Monitor the Test LED, and keep holding the RESET button until the Test LED changes from blinking to steady ON (which means the boot loader has entered the TFTP recovery mode)
    5. Connect the PC to the LAN port of the unit
    6. Transmit the firmware image file to the unit:
For Windows PC, enter the DOS command: tftp -i 192.168.1.1 PUT KWGR614_XXX.bix
For a Linux PC, use the command: tftp -m binary 192.168.1.1 -c put KWGR614_XXX.bix
where the “192.168.1.1” is the unit’s LAN IP address and “KWGR614_XXX.bix” is the firmware image file to transmit.
    7. Monitor the Test LED. When it starts blinking, the recovery procedure is complete
    8. Power cycle to reboot KWGR614
Repeat the above steps if the procedure is interrupted or failed.

Known Issues

  1. Video and Audio of ICQ5 connection cannot be established.

To Upgrade

Note: Do not upgrade the firmware using a wireless connection. Please perform firmware upgrade with “wired” or Ethernet connection only.

  1. Write down all the settings which you changed from the default values, since you may need to reenter them manually.
  2. Download using the button below to a convenient place such as your desktop.

    1.76 MB

  3. Log in to the router using a Web broswer. The URL is http://192.168.1.1 ( if you did not change the router’s IP address ).
  4. Click Maintenance > Router Upgrade
  5. Click Browse and find the file you just downloaded.
  6. Click Upload. Do not interrupt the upgrade while the router does this step. The router reboots when the upgrade is done.

  8. If you would like to check that the upgrade was successful, log in to the router again at http://192.168.1.1, and check the firmware version.

Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic, building materials and construction, and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate.
