SPH101 Firmware Version 1.0.35.31

Published: Oct 17, 2006.

Do you need to upgrade to this version?

  • This is an Initial Release firmware - a version which is preloaded on your Skype Wifi phone - except for a small batch of products which is loaded with version 1.0.29.44
  • You can determine the firmware version on your Skype Wifi Phone by navigating to: Menu > Settings > Information > Software Version. This article explains the procedure to determine the firmware version in detail.
  • This firmware (version 1.0.35.31) is only for the batch of products which come preloaded with 1.0.29.44 only. NETGEAR recommends all users with the old version to upgrade to this version.
  • This firmware and procedure apply to SPH101 that has firmware version 1.0.29.44. It will not work for any other (old/new) version.

Upgrade Procedure:

  • Applies only to SPH101 with firmware version 1.0.29.44 - Read "Do you need to upgrade to this version?" above.
  • Write down all your configuration settings. You will have to restore the device to factory defaults after the firmware update.

This is a 2 steps process – the first step will be on the SPH101 and the second step will be on the PC where you have installed the SPH101 WiFiPhone Update Utility. You must follow and complete both steps to successfully upgrade the firmware on the SPH101.

On SPH101:

  1. Select Menu from the main screen.
  2. Scroll down and select Settings.
  3. Scroll down and select General.
  4. Scroll down and select Software Updates.
  5. Scroll down and select Update from PC.
  6. The phone will then sign you out and reboot into a mode that will accept the firmware.
  7. You should see the following screen "Make sure the power cable is plugged in or the battery is fully charged before continuing with the update process".
  8. Press OK.
  9. Select the wireless network where the computer that will be running the WiFiPhone Update Utility is also connected to and press Next. The SPH101 and the Update PC must be on the same network in order for this firmware update to start.
  10. A summary of the wireless network that you have selected will show up with the SSID, MAC address and the type of security.
  11. Press Connect.
  12. Once you have successfully connected to the wireless network, you will see the “Successfully connected IP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.” You will also see the “Enter this SPH101 IP address on your WiFiPhone Update PC, Press NEXT when finished.”
  13. You now have completed the first process of the upgrade on the SPH101. Please install the WiFiPhone Update Utility on the PC and proceed to the next part of the upgrade process.
