This utility is also available on the installation CD.

The encryption utility let you set XE104-specific security. It is used in addition to other security on your network. The utility can be used for the earlier XE102 Powerline product.

It's not necessary to use encryption, or to install the utility.

The instructions for using this utility start on page 3-5 of the manual.

Security is important for all networked computers, however the vulnerability of Powerline products is somewhat less than with wireless products, because someone would need physical access to electrical wiring (which might be the case, for example, with two neighbors in an apartment complex), and they would need to guess that you are using Powerline.
