What Path is Windows Looking for During Adapter Driver Installation?

WG511 Software Release 3.0

Driver Version: 2.1.25.0

Features

  1. Fixed driver incompatibilities.
  2. Added support to save and switch profile between all user accounts (including non-administrator accounts) on Windows XP Home and Professional (including SP2) and Windows 2000 Professional.

Limitations

  • Users with limited accounts cannot always install programs and might need administrator privileges to install it.
  • Windows 2000 Server is not supported.

If Upgrading a Previous Installation

  1. Since you restart your computer during installation, close all other programs.
  2. Use the download button below, and save the file to a convenient place such as your desktop.
  3. Unzip the file.
  4. Select Start > Programs > WG511 Smart Wizard > Uninstall NETGEAR WG511 Software. The NETGEAR SMART WIZARD - Install Assistant window appears.
  5. Select the Remove radio button, then click Next.
  6. Click OK to do the uninstall.
  7. You are asked to restart your computer. You must do this before continuing to the next step.
  8. Run the version 3.0 installer, WG511v300.exe.
  9. Follow the instructions to complete the installation. (You may simply click Next until reaching a window with a Finish button. Then click Finish.)
  10. Windows 98SE and Windows Me users, restart your computer again.

If Doing a First Time Install

DO NOT put the WG511 adapter into your computer yet.

  1. Use the download button below, and save the file to a convenient place such as your desktop.
  2. Unzip the file.
  3. Run WG511v300.exe.
  4. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.
  5. If a Security Warning window pops up, dismiss it by clicking Run.
  6. Physically plug in the WG511 PC adapter into the PCMCIA slot in your laptop.
  7. Follow the instructions to complete the installation. (You may simply click Next until reaching a window with a Finish button. Then click Finish.)
  8. If a Hardware Install warning window pops up, dismiss it by clicking Continue Anyway.

After installing, you may delete the wg511v300.zip file you downloaded, and also the folder WG511v300 created when the file is unzipped.
