DG834N RangeMax NEXT ADSL2+ Modem Router
Firmware Version 1.02.08

Published April 7, 2008

WN121T Users:

To maintain interoperability between WN121T and DG834N in 802.11n mode, you must upgrade the firmware on DG834N to version 1.01.06 or above and also upgrade your WN121T software to version 2.0 or above. Visit WN121T Product Page

Fixes

  1. This release has passed Wi-Fi 802.11n Draft 2.0 Certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance and Centrino Certification from Intel.
  2. Added support for Internet Group Management Protocol version 2 (IGMPv2) a communications protocol used to manage the membership of Internet Protocol multicast groups. IGMPv2 is used by IP hosts and adjacent multicast routers to establish multicast group memberships. IGMPv2 can be used for online streaming video and gaming, and allows more efficient use of resources when supporting these uses.
  3. Added support for Wi-Fi Multimedia Quality of Service (WMM QoS) to prioritize wireless voice and video traffic. WMM QoS is a feature that provides prioritization of wireless data packets from different applications based on four access categories: voice, video, best effort, and background. For an application to receive the benefits of WMM QoS, both it and the client running that application must be WMM-enabled. Legacy applications that do not support WMM, and applications that do not require QoS, are assigned to the best-effort category, which receives a lower priority than voice and video. WMM QoS is enabled automatically.
  4. Added support for Wireless Distribution System (WDS) under the Advanced menu. WDS allows a wireless network to be expanded using access points without needing a wired backbone to connect them. The DG834N can be configured to connect with other access points as a bridge (with wired clients only) or as a repeater (with wired and/or wireless clients)
  5. Added support for Wi-Fi Multi-Media Power Save (WMM-PS). WMM-PS extends the battery life of Wi-Fi devices by increasing the efficiency and flexibility of data transmission. With WMM-PS, the same amount of data can be transmitted in a shorter time and using fewer frames, while allowing the Wi-Fi device to remain longer in a low-power, "dozing" state. WMM-PS is enabled by default.
  6. Added a firewall configuration option to easily disable Instant Messaging ports which are open by default. To disable Instant Messaging ports go to the Firewall Rules page and check Close IM Ports.
  7. Added a checkbox to disable the firewall with Network Address Translation (NAT) disabled. If the firewall is disabled with NAT disabled the protections normally provided to your network will be disabled.
  8. Added a SIP Application Level Gateway (ALG) enabled by default to optimize VoIP phone calls that use the SIP protocol. This feature can be found on the Advanced WAN Setup page and can be disabled by checking the Disable SIP ALG checkbox.
  9. Enabled ITU G.992.5 Annex M which extends the capability of basic ADSL2 by doubling the number of upstream bits.
  10. Added support for Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) which is a licensed data link layer protocol for network topology discovery and quality of service diagnostics, developed by Microsoft as part of their Windows Rally set of technologies. The LLTD protocol operates over both wired as well as wireless networks.

To Upgrade

  1. If you've changed any values from the defaults, write them down. Then if you ever need to do a factory reset, if there are problems upgrading, you'll have all the information necessary to reconfigure the device.
  2. Download using the button below, saving to a convenient place such as your desktop.

    3.13 MB

  3. Using a Web browser, login to the router as admin
  4. Under Maintenance click Router Upgrade
  5. Click Browse and find the upgrade file dg834n_1_02_08.img
  6. Click Upload
  7. Wait for the upgrade progress bar to complete and final prompt to appear.
