ATTENTION !

Instructions are DIFFERENT, depending on your equipment

  • If you have a WG511 (WG511v1), you cannot use this firmware. Go here: http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/wg511v1.asp
  • If you are not using a US version of Windows, do not use this firmware! Use only the initial release which shipped on the CD. It is also available here: http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/d102576.asp
  • There are two sections (below) for installation: One if you are upgrading, but a different one if you have never installed the adapter in the computer.
  • WPNT834 RangeMax router users: WPA2-PSK (AES) security is not working with this adapter. Use either WEP or WPA-PSK (TKIP), instead.

New Features

1. Added the Install Assistant Security Wizard. During installtion, you are asked whether you want to use this convenient feature. The SmartWizard is compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 2.

2. Added Security IEEE 802.11i Wi-Fi protected Access (WPA2-PSK).

Installation, If Upgrading a Previous Installation

  1. Since you will be asked to restart your computer, close all other programs before starting.
  2. Download using the button below to a convenient place such as your desktop. This is a large file!

  3. Select Start > Programs > WG511v2 Smart Wizard > Uninstall NETGEAR WG511v2 Software. The NETGEAR SMART WIZARD Install Assistant window appears.
  4. Select Remove, then click Next.
  5. Click OK to uninstall.
  6. You are asked to restart your computer. You must do this before continuing to the next step.
  7. Run the installer, wg511v2h1sw2511.exe
  8. Follow the instructions to complete the installation. (Click Next until reaching a window with a Finish button. Then click Finish.)
  9. Windows 98SE and Windows Me users, restart your computer.

Installation, If Doing a First Time Install

If you have physically put the adapter into your computer, REMOVE IT before starting.

  1. Download using the button below to a convenient place such as your desktop. This is a large file!

  2. Run wg511v2h1sw2511.exe
  3. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.
  4. Physically plug in the adapter into the PCMCIA slot in your computer.
  5. Follow the instructions to complete the installation. (Click Next until reaching a window with a Finish button. Then click Finish.)
  6. Windows 98SE and Windows Me users, restart your computer.
