Error No Central Storage Device was Found in SmartWizard

Error "No Central Storage Device was Found" in SmartWizard

Be sure that the following is true:

  1. At least 1 hard disk is plugged into the SC101/SC101T.
  2. The Power LED light is lit solid green. The SC101/SC101T takes more than 2 minutes to reboot. Give it this time before running the SCM to locate the disks. If you create many partitions, it takes extra time to reboot.
  3. The DHCP server is up. (If the green LED flashes three times periodically, something is wrong with response from the DHCP server.)
  4. Your computer and the SC101 are connected to the same LAN and subnet (and are not across different routers and also not using different subnet for the computer and the SC101. For example, these two IP addresses are not in the same subnet: 255.255.0.0 for the computer and 255.255.255.0 for the SC101).
  5. You used a wired connection to configure and modify the SC101/SC101T.
  6. The SC101/SC101T works with the Windows XP Personal Firewall, but not with others such as Trend Micro Personal Firewall and Norton Firewall. These firewalls must be disabled, or configured with open UDP port 20001.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check hard disk partitions.
    1. Make sure that you have partitioned the hard disks. Use the UT commands to see a list of partitions that you created. See Using the UT Command and the SC101/SC101T Command Line Interface.
    2. If you only see the Root partition, this means that you have not partitioned your hard disks. Create a new partition as described in section "If a partition has never been seen on a particular computer" in this article.
  2. To keep a wireless connection between your computers and the SC101/SC101T, there must regularly be a small amount of data throughput. The SC101/SC101T may drop off when operating at the limits of wireless range.
  3. Restart your network:
    1. Power off the SC101/SC101T, the modem and router, if you have them, and the computers.
    2. Power on the SC101/SC101T.
    3. Power on the modem.
    4. Power on the router.
    5. Power on the computers.
    6. If you still get the error message: No Storage Central device was found, see Using the UT Command and the SC101/SC101T Command Line Interface to confirm that your SC101/SC101T got an IP address from the DHCP server.

Microsoft Security, Socketwatch, and Socketlock

If you downloaded and installed one of these freeware utilities which was intended to fix a problem with Microsoft security, you need to run the utility again, and remove it (Source to uninstall utilities) It may be that the fix has no value in itself (see reference) or causes other problems. It definitely interferes with the normal function of the SC101/SC101T.
