What serial number is used to install the backup software?

The serial number for the SC101/SC101T, which appears on the unit, and also on the box. The picture shows the serial number on the box, on the lower right, under the bars marked "SN".

How do I tell which disk is which?

If the disks are different sizes, then in the Wizard mode, the physical size of the disk is shown in the disk list, in the Advanced Configuration mode. Or, if you move the mouse over to the disk entry, a tool tip box will display the information.

If the disks are the same size, disconnect one disk, and give the remaining one a name. Also, name the second disk when you reinsert it.

Rebooting or resetting with the button on the back panel

• When the button is pressed and immediately released, the SC101/SC101T reboots.
• When pressed and held for more than 6 seconds, the password is reset to "password", and all the attached, lettered drives are removed from the network. This is also useful if your computer loses access to attached SC101/SC101T drives.

Can mirroring be removed from a drive?

There is no option to automatically "un-mirror" a drive. To do this manually:

1. Power off the SC101/SC101T.
2. Unplug one disk.
3. Power the SC101/SC101T on. The remaining drive reverts to a regular, un-mirrored drive.
4. Power off the SC101/SC101T.
5. Plug the second hard disk back in.
6. Power on the SC101/SC101T. The second disk is now a “broken mirror” drive.
7. Delete the "broken mirror" to recover the storage space.

How is a Static IP assigned to an SC101/SC101T drive?

This cannot be done, DHCP must be used.

Can the SC101/SC101T be formatted using Windows' NTFS File System?

This is known to cause corruption when multiple users access the SC101/SC101T. NETGEAR did not test using NTFS, so there may be other critical, undiscovered problems. Use the standard SC101/SC101T utilities to configure and maintain the SC101/SC101T.
