What are Typical Antenna Uses?

Being weatherproof, it can be used for indoor or outdoor LAN point-to-multipoint applications.

  • Outdoor examples: hot spots, campus environments, stadiums, open warehouses, restaurants, and cafés.
  • Indoor examples: exhibit halls, plane, train, and bus terminals, warehouses, and offices.

In an office environment, you'd use the antenna:

  • To increase range and throughput where wireless access points and router are located
  • To relocate the antenna in a central spot near the area of heaviest usage, where the wireless unit is in a fixed location (E.g., an IT Department's equipment closet)

A complete set of outdoor equipment comes with the antenna, except the ground cable and antenna cable. Purchase separately the NETGEAR antenna cable ACC-10314-01, 02, 03, 04 or 05 fitting your application. When outdoors, a ground cable is required. Use AWG 10, UL 1015, standard 600 V, 105°C, green or green/yellow insulation, 2 clips with a 5.5 mm inner diameter clamped at both ends, and cable no longer than 15 feet (5 meters).

The specification of each accessory is detailed along with the ANT2409 antenna, including radiation pattern in horizontal and vertical cuts.

What Wireless Devices Connect to the Antenna?

Connection-wise, any wireless units with reverse SMA or reverse N connectors. However FCC requires that any combinations of wireless devices, antenna(s) and antenna cables have to be FCC certified altogether. The FCC does not require testing for passive devices such as this antenna. Many NETGEAR products that work with this antenna have this certification:

  • NETGEAR access points ME103 or WG302. It also works with the WG602, however FCC certification is incomplete.
  • NETGEAR routers FWG114P or FVM318. It also works with the FM114P and DG834G however the tests were not completed for FCC certification.

See Antennas and Accessories FCC Approvals for an updated list of FCC-approved devices. Europeans see: Guidelines for Proper Use of 802.11b and 802.11g NETGEAR Antennas and Accessories in Europe.

Does the Antenna Need Professional Installation?

You can do the installation yourself, in most cases. The antenna comes with a detailed, step-by-step installation guide and a complete set of electrical and mechanical accessories. For a description of general testing and the role of professionals see Improving Wireless Range: Testing, section "Use Professional Help".
