Troubleshooting the MP101 Wireless Digital Music Player

Troubleshooting the MP101 Wireless Digital Music Player

This fixes most problems in about 10 minutes.

  1. Check speaker by playing sounds from any place except the MP101.
  2. Make sure the computer with the Media server software has its power on.
  3. If the Media server is installed, there is an icon in the PC System Tray. Install it if it isn't.
  4. The Media server software must be running when the MP101 is running. If it isn't, there is a red bar across the system tray icon.
  5. Make sure the MP101 power is on.
  6. If you are using a wired connection to the MP101, check that the cable is secure.
  7. If using wireless, make sure an Ethernet cable is not connected. (The Ethernet cable will stop the wireless signal from transmitting.)
  8. Does the MP101 have an IP address in the same range as the Media Server computer? If not turn the MP101 power off, then turn it back on again.
  9. Configure the Media Server. If you have more than one Ethernet adapter, make sure it’s configured to the correct one.
  10. Reboot the MP101. Use the remote control. If MP101 doesn’t reboot, replace remote control batteries.
  11. If wireless, check the wireless network is listed on the MP101:
    • If it’s not listed, see if any other wireless device sees the wireless network If they don’t, then troubleshoot the router or the access point.
    • If listed, power off the MP101, then power it on again.
    • If the wireless network is listed, select the network. Check there’s a valid IP, if there is not, then check WEP is enabled, SSID is correct.
  12. If wired, check the link lights on the MP101 and on the device it’s connected to. (A router, access point, or computer adapter.)
    • If there are no link lights, if possible, lower the duplex speed of the adapter. Power cycle the device that’s providing the DHCP address. Ping the MP101 from the computer.
    • If the above fails, power off the MP101, then power it on again.
  13. Find an available computer Server. If you can’t find a server, restart all applications again on the computer.
  14. If there’s not an ok connection, ping the MP101. If there’s no ping, power cycle the MP101.
