Why Does a Super G Product Not Reach Full 108 Mbps Speeds?

Why Does a Super G Product Not Reach Full 108 Mbps Speeds?

Problem Description:

My NETGEAR adapter has Super G technology and capable of 108 Mbps speed but I’m only showing 54 Mbps when connecting to my router.

Resolution:

  • Your NETGEAR router should also have Super G technology. Make sure router is configured and running on Super G mode.
  • Your adapter should be configured and running on Super G mode.
  • Make sure you are running the latest firmware on your router and have downloaded the latest driver for your adapter.
  • By default, the adapters will display 54 Mbps when not doing heavy file transfers. During continuous file transfers, the adapter will display speed up to 108 Mbps, momentarily, then it goes back to 54 Mbps when file transfer is finished.
Note: When working in a noisy wireless environment, it would be difficult to achieve speed up to 108 Mbps.

Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Actual data throughput will vary. Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic, building materials and construction, and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate.
