Why Doesn't Ad Hoc Mode Work After I Enter an SSID?

You need to select Initiate Ad Hoc before clicking Apply.

To Start an Ad Hoc Network

1. Enter the SSID (aka Network Name).
2. Select Computer-to-Computer (Ad-Hoc) network type.
3. Click Initiate Ad Hoc.
4. Accept default settings, or make changes and click OK.
5. Click Apply.

Be sure all computers in your Ad Hoc network are configured with static IP address in the same subnet.
