11 Mpbs Performance With Wireless Ad-Hoc Mode

11 Mpbs Performance With Wireless Ad-Hoc Mode

IEEE wireless standards are used for all NETGEAR wireless products. Standards IEEE 802.11b and IEEE 802.11g specify that when in Ad-Hoc mode, wireless products only need to support 11 Mbps. These IEEE standards apply to "b", "g" and "Super G" products.

To get top performance, use Infrastructure mode instead.

In certain products, with certain chipsets, you may find that you can get higher speeds than advertised with Ad-Hoc mode. But since this exceeds the IEEE specification, companies supplying NETGEAR with chipsets do not want to make statements about whether their products will definitely run faster.

Therefore, if you have introduced new wireless devices into your Ad-Hoc network you may find that, because it cannot support the faster speed, the overall network has dropped to the 11 Mbps standard.

Maximum wireless signal rate derived from IEEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Actual data throughput will vary.
Network conditions and environmental factors, including volume of network traffic,
building materials and construction, and network overhead, lower actual data throughput rate.
