To Start an Ad Hoc Network

1 Fill in the Network Name (SSID).
2 Select the Computer-to-Computer (Ad-Hoc) network type.
3 Click Initiate Ad Hoc.
4 Accept default settings or make changes and click OK.
5 Click Apply.

Be sure all computers in your Ad Hoc network are configured with static IP address in the same subnet.

The WG511T software asks users to choose one of the utility programs during installation.

  1. Be sure the card is in the notebook.
  2. Go to Control Panel> Network Connections> Wireless Network Connection > Properties> Wireless Networks for the wireless card.
  3. Check or uncheck Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings.

 

Which LED is Power and which is Network Activity?

The WG511T LED’s behavior differs from previous NETGEAR cards.

  • Both LEDs blinking alternately means "attempting to connect".
  • Both LEDs blinking together means a good connection (fast blinking means data is being transmitted).
  • LEDs off mean the card is not plugged in, or there is no power applied to the card.

 

Are the WG511 and WG511T IEEE 802.11g Compliant?Is There a New Compliant Driver?

Both WG511T and WG511 comply with final IEEE 802.11g standards. Software: WG511T: version 3.0; WG511: version 1.5 or later.

 

How Do I Get a PDF Copy of the Manual?

In the manual's HTML page, there is a PDF button at the top right of the Web page. Clicking the button brings up the PDF file of the entire manual. You can also print, email, and bookmark pages using the appropriate icons next to the PDF button.

 

Why are There Two WG511T Utility Icons in the System Tray?

The previous WG511 software was installed in addition to the new software. To keep the original WG511 utility and use it interchangeably, upgrade your WG511 software from v1.1 or v1.2 to v1.5. The v1.5 utility will coexist with the new WG511T utility. This way, whichever cards you use, the correct utility will be activated.

To Remove the WG511 Software

  1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Remove the NETGEAR WG511 54Mbps Wireless PC Card.

To Upgrade From v1.1/v1.2 to v1.6

  1. Download appropriate file using the WG511 Support Page. READ THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ON THAT PAGE.
  2. Run WG511v16.exe.
  3. Select Repair from the InstallShield Wizard prompt and click Next.
  4. Click Finish when done to restart your computer.
