The file 314v??.bin is the main router software and the romfile0.311 is the factory default configuration file used to reset the firmware to factory default (the password will be reset to 1234 and the router IP address will be set back to 192.168.0.1).

To Update the Router Software Using FTP

1. Download the firmware from kbserver.netgear.com to your desktop and extract them to a folder on your desktop.

2. Select start-run and type command for Windows 95/98/ME and type cmd for Windows NT/2000 and an MS-DOS window should open.

3. Make sure your MS-DOS windows is set with the directory c:windowsdesktop>

4. Type ftp 192.168.0.1 (this is the IP gateway address of the router; if you changed it, then type in the IP gateway of the router you changed it to) and press 'Enter'.

5. Login to your router: no login name is necessary so press 'Enter'.

6. The password is the current password which the default password is 1234. If you have changed the password then enter it instead of 1234.

7. After you have logged in, type 'bin' (without the single quotaions) and press 'Enter'.

8. If the software upgrade is what you are after then type; put 314v??.bin ras (the ?? represent the firmware version) and press 'Enter'.

9. If the reset of the configuration is what you are after then type; put romfile0.311 rom-0 and press 'Enter'.

10.  Your FTP session will be automatically disconnected and your router will now reboot.

11.  Type 'bye' (without the single quotations) and press 'Enter' to exit FTP and type 'exit' (without the single quotations) and press 'Enter' to exit MS-DOS.
