Ethernet Adapter Will Not Install on Windows 2000

  1. Uninstall the Ethernet controller using the Control Panel Device Manager.
  2. Close the Device Manager.
  3. Right-click My Computer, and select Properties.
  4. Click Hardware.
  5. Click Driver Signing.
  6. If "Block" is checked under file signature verification, then change it to Ignore. (You can change it back to "Block" after installing the adapter, if you like.)
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Device Manager.
  9. Highlight the top item in the displayed tree.
  10. Select Action > Scan for Hardware Changes.
  11. Click Action at the top of Device manager and click Scan for hardware changes.
  12. Reinstall the Ethernet adapter.
