Troubleshooting - Adapter Is Not Detected By The System

This article focuses on the troubleshooting a NETGEAR Adapter when it is not being detected in the computer.

Possible causes:

  1. The Operating System on the computer might not support the Plug & Play feature or need latest system updates.
  2. The USB port or PCI slot on the computer might be faulty.
  3. Extension cable (if being used) that connects the USB adapter and the computer might be faulty.
  4. There is no driver support for the Operating system.

Symptoms:

  1. LED will not light up on the adapter.
  2. Found New Hardware Wizard does not come up.

Resolutions:

  1. 1. Make sure you meet the minimum system requirements for the adapter and have the latest updates on the computer.
  2. Use the latest driver for the adapter. Latest drivers can be found on NETGEAR download page.
  3. Try a different USB port or PCI slot on the computer.
  4. Try another device and check if it gets detected.
  5. Try to connect the adapter directly to the computer without using an extension cable.
  6. Try restarting the computer or try adapter on a different computer.
