 Physical Connectivity:

Follow the below steps to connect two XEPS103 in the powerline Network:

  1. Connect one of the XEPS103 to an available LAN port of the router. If your router uses 12V, 1A power supply, the XEPS103 can provide power to the router using the attached power cord.
  2. Connect the other XEPS103 to a computer’s Ethernet port.
  3. Ensure that both XEPS103 adapters are connected to the power outlet.
  4. The following powerline network should be established.

Initial Installation:

  1. Once the physical connectivity is done, ensure that three lights (Power, Ethernet, and Powerline) on both the powerline devices should be on.
  2. Once confirmed the status of lights lit up on the adapters, check to see if computer connected to XEPS103 adapter gets an IP address.
  3. If computer gets an IP address, check the Internet Connection. It should be working.

 Encryption:

Once the Internet connection is working, we can secure the Powerline network so that no one can access the network by plugging another powerline adapter on the same electrical circuit.

  1. Download the latest XEPS103 utility from the following link:
    http://kbserver.netgear.com/products/XEPS103.asp
  2. Run and install the PowerLine Utility.
  3. Following Icon will automatically appear on your Desktop. Double-click to open the utility.
  4. Main tab shows the MAC Address of the XEPS103 directly connected to the PC.
  5. Click on "Scan".

It will list the MAC address of all the Powerline adapters connected in the Network. (XEPS103 in this case)
  6. Select the MAC address of the Remote XEPS103 and click on Enter Password.
  7. Enter the password printed on the back of the remote XEPS103 to add to your private network.
  8. Click on Security tab to create Private Network Security.
  9.  Type the password you would like to use in the Private Network Password box.
  10.  Click on Set All devices. A pop-up window will  indicate that operation is successful.

Troubleshooting:

Below are some connectivity issues and solutions for your Powerline products.

  1. Powerline LED is not lit: The reason is that the powerline adapters are not able to communicate to the other Powerline adapter in the network.
    • Ensure that the Powerline adapters are securely plugged in the power socket.  Make sure Power light is lit.
    • Connect the Powerline adapters in the same room to see if can communicate.  If they cannot communicate when on the same room, it may be a hardware issue with the Powerline adapter.
    • When Powerline adapters are not on the same room, ensure that they are in same phase of electricity (circuit breakers). Different phase may stop the communication between the adapters.
  2. Only Power LED is lit:
    • Try plugging the Powerline adapter on another power outlet.
    • Make sure the other Powerline adapter is plugged in and connected to the router.
    • The adapter may have gone faulty. If the hardware is still under warranty, please call technical support for a replacement.
  3. Unable to get IP address on the computer connected to a Powerline adapter:
    • Check whether router’s DHCP server is working by connecting a computer directly to the router and check for the valid IP address.
    • See “Powerline LED is not lit” above for troubleshooting guide.
    • Assign static IP address on the computer of the same range as the router and check the connection.
