Cannot Download NETGEAR Files

Cannot Find or Cannot Download NETGEAR Files

The normal way to find a download is to select on this page from the product dropdown.

Cannot Find Files

The search does not work with some misspellings. If you aren't sure of the product model, select from the dropdown list.

You may be looking for something that doesn't exist. Generally, there are no downloads specifically for Macintosh, 64-bit operating systems, Unix, or Windows 2003.

You are looking for a non-North American version of a download. For downloads earlier than March, 2006, these might only be posted on local country sites.

You want an older version of a download which is no longer posted. These are probably still available; email Support with your request.

You're looking for a copy of a complete installation CD. These aren't posted, since they are often very large.

Cannot Download Files

1,000s of files are downloaded daily. The servers are fast, lightly loaded, and have 99.99% availability. These are reasons for download failures:

  • You are behind a firewall stopping FTP traffic. Do your downloading without the firewall. If the firewall is in a router, temporarily remove the router, and directly connect your computer to your ISP connection. (You can also use port forwarding.) If you are running a software firewall, temporarily disable it.
  • Part of your connection is slow — and it's simply taking a long time. Although NETGEAR has wide "pipes", your ISP may have a throttle on the bandwidth you get.
  • Files larger than 2 MB are most likely to cause problems. Try downloading at night or on weekends. Make sure your computer is not running other programs while downloading.
  • You have a dial-up ISP, and they disconnect you after awhile. Contact your ISP. However, they may be unwilling to make any change. In this case you may want to use a friend's computer (someone who has a different ISP).
  • You use a "download optimizing" program such as BitTorrent, eDonkey, eMule or FlashGet. See this article for troubleshooting (or don't use the program for the NETGEAR download).
  • You clicked the download twice, thinking it had not started. Downloading two files at once is very slow.
  • You have a Macintosh, and can't follow the instructions to "Right-click and Save" a link. That instruction is for Windows users. All you have to do is click the link normally.
  • You are trying to log in anonymously, so you can browse the FTP site. This feature is disabled, as the server has downloads for many countries and releases suitable only in special cases. It would be easy to pick the wrong file.
  • Four or five times a month, we discover a broken link. ("The Page Cannot Be Displayed") Since they are usually fixed within a few hours, it's not necessary to report them, thank you.
