Keeping Router Configuration During Upgrade

Question

Is it possible to keep router configuration during firmware upgrade?

Answer

The firmware upgrade process (uploading '.bin' file) does not erase the current configuration of the router. But if you upload the 'romfile' to the router, all of the current settings will be erased. It is better to have backup of current configuration of the router for safety before uploading the firmware. You should also examine the settings for any new features added with the firmware upgrade.

Specific to FR series routers:

In 'FR' series routers such as FR314 uploading the firmware (.bin file) will bring the router to its default configuration. So, please take a backup of the configuration file before uploading the firmware.
